Ramadaan Reminder ~ A Fasting Person Should Constantly Be Aware of the Object of Fasting ~ Benefits of Taqwa*

O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed
upon those before you that you may become righteous
~ Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183

The purpose and aim of fasting, is acquiring Taqwa. Unfortunately, very many of us fast in the month of Ramadaan without conscientising ourselves with the aim and object of fasting. The objective of fasting is “La ‘allakum tattaqoon” …  so that you may gain Taqwa.

Ramadaan Reminder ~ The Three ‘Ashra’s of Ramadaan

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said :
“This is a month, the first part of which brings Allah’s Rahmah (Mercy), the middle of which brings Allah’s Maghfirah (Forgiveness), and the last part of which brings Najaat / ‘Itqun minannaar (Emancipation from the Hellfire).” ~ Bukhari

Ramadaan Reminder ~ Restraining One’s Self

bismillahh

Ramadaan Reminder ~ Restraining One’s Self

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala has commanded the fasting person to abstain from even Halaal permissible acts such as eating, drinking and having relationships with our spouses. If so much of emphasis has been placed on acts that are Halaal and permissible, then imagine those acts that are totally impermissible? Speaking lies, deceiving, backbiting, fighting, quarrelling, becoming angry, exhibiting pride and arrogance, harbouring jealousy and enmity become ‘more’ serious offences in the month of Ramadaan …

If one is able to suppress the dictates of ones Nafs by refraining from Halaal pleasures, then it becomes easy for a person to restrain himself from Haraam.

Ramadaan Reminder ~ Awareness of Allah Ta’ala and Having Istiqaamat (Steadfastness)

bismillahh

Ramadaan Reminder ~ Awareness of Allah Ta’ala and having Istiqaamat (Steadfastness)

As the fasting person goes into the month of Ramadaan, he gradually increases in Taqwa. His awareness of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala becomes stronger. He bears in mind that Allah Ta’ala is watching him all the time. It is through this “consciousness” of Allah Ta’ala watching him, that enables him to refrain from taking just a sip of water whilst fasting, even when he is all alone and in privacy … He is conscious that Allah is watching him.

For 30 days a person is ‘conscious’ of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala watching him all the time. Through this “consciousness”, the Noor of Taqwa accumulates within himself … However, if this Istihzaar (awareness) of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala decreases in him (by him committing sins), then, this Noor decreases and can eventually all be lost…

Importance of Istiqaamat

After the month of Ramadaan, if a person feels that he has now been “freed” from some shackle, or is free like a bird out of a cage … then he has lost the essence of Ramadaan. Ramadaan is not here to shackle us. Yes, it is a training period of disciplining the Nafs by exercising patience and endurance over temporary difficulties and hardships. Infact, there is great enjoyment that one experiences when fulfilling the Hukum (command) of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.

Ramadaan Reminder ~ Deprivation of Allah’s Mercy in the Month of Ramadaan

bismillahh

Ramadaan Reminder ~ Deprivation of Allah’s Mercy in the Month of Ramadaan

One needs to regularly conscientise oneself of the significance, the purpose, the great rewards of Ibaadah during this sacred month to derive maximum benefit from its Blessings.

It has been mentioned in a narration:

… for the unfortunate one is he who is deprived in (this month) of the Mercy of Allah, the Mighty, the Exalted.”~ [Tabarani]

Ulema have stated that there are three categories of people in Ramadaan :

1- Those who welcome Ramadaan with open arms and value every moment of it.

2 – Those who fast and perform Taraweeh with a sigh of reluctance, and their eyes are always focussed on the calendar … waiting for the end of Ramadaan.

3- Those who show total indifference to the month of Ramadaan. Who do not fast nor pray at all.

Let us not be amongst the most unfortunate, wretched, unlucky people, whom the month of Ramadaan comes and goes by and they fail to seek forgiveness from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. Such people are cursed by Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. He expressed word ‘BA’DUA’ … May the one who fails to seek forgiveness during Ramadaan be kept “far away” from the Mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.

Let it not happen that the month of Ramadaan comes and goes by and we fail to gain from the treasures of Allah Ta’ala’s Mercy …
