Ramadaan Reminder ~ The Immense Reward for Fasting

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA) mentioned that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “Every deed of the son of Adam is multiplied for him, between ten and seven hundred times.

Allah said:

‘Except for fasting, for it is for Me, and I shall give the reward for it.'”

~ (Sunan Ibn Majah)

The person who fasts in the month of Ramadaan, with Imaan (faith) and Ihtisaab (anticipating reward from Allah), is rewarded abundantly.

Why is there such an abundant reward for Fasting?

The Ulema explain that when a person does any good deed (Salaah, Zakaat, Sadaqa, Haj, Umrah etc), then he attains a fixed stipulated reward from Allah Ta’ala. However, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala does not stipulate a fixed amount of Sawaab for fasting!

Why? …  When a person performs good deeds  like Salaah, Zakaat, Haj, Umrah etc, these deeds are generally apparent to others. People can observe one performing these deeds. However, fasting is a ‘concealed and hidden form of ibaadat … Therefore in fasting there is this “additional” Ikhlaas (sincerity) in the person. The fasting person is able to focus better on doing it solely for the sake of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, as no one else observes this deed in him. Also, whilst fasting, one endures hardship on his Nafs, by refraining from even otherwise permissible things like eating etc. This Nafs-e-Ammaarah of his, is being trained to become Nafs-e-Mutma-innah by the month of Ramadaan.

Hence, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala in His ‘Immeasurable Mercy’ grants Immeasurable rewards for fasting.

In the Hadith, Allah says  :  وانا اجزي به
‘Wa ana ajzee bihi’

I Myself, will reward the fasting person …

Ramadaan Reminder ~ Rewards of Good Deeds Multiplied in Ramadaan

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said :

Whoever draws nearer (to Allah) by performing any of the optional good deeds (Nafl) in (this month) shall receive the same reward as performing an obligatory deed (Fard) at any other time, and whoever discharges an obligatory deed (Fard) in (this month) shall receive the reward of performing seventy obligations (70 Fard) at any other time.

Ramadaan Reminder ~ Taming the Nafs

Hazrat Abu Hurairah, Radiyallahu Anhu narrated that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said:

“When the month of Ramadaan comes, the doors of Paradise are opened and the doors of Hellfire are closed,

and the devils are chained.”

~ [Bukhari]

The moment the month of Ramadaan enters, Allah Ta’ala opens the doors of Jannah, HE closes the doors of Jahannum, and HE fetters the Shayaateen;  thus indicating to us that HE wishes to bless this Ummah with HIS special Mercy and compassion during this blessed month.

Regarding the chaining of the Shayaateen, some Ulema are of the opinion that only the “big” Shayateen are chained and not the smaller ones. Others, however say, that all the Shayaateen are chained, but due to the fact that one has become so accustomed to following the dictates of his Nafs, egos, desires and passions the entire year, that he finds it difficult to abstain from committing sins even in the blessed month of Ramadaan.

It is therefore imperative that one makes a concerted effort in taming and controlling one’s Nafs…….

Ramadaan Reminder ~ Valuing every moment of this Great and Blessed Month

O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting, as it was decreed upon those before you, that you may ward off evil~ Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183

As the auspicious month of Ramadaan dawns over us, we the reciters of the Kalimah ~ La ilaha illAllah, should be experiencing a great deal of enjoyment and ecstasy,  knowing that this great important guest, is now at our doorstep! We had been earnestly awaiting the arrival of Ramadaan, hoping to seize this golden opportunity of becoming a ‘True Friend’ of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam had assembled the Sahaba Radiyallahu Anhum on the last day of Shabaan and gave them a lengthy Khutbah (sermon), in which he emphasised the importance, the blessings, the virtue of the month of Ramadaan.

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam addressed the Sahaba Radiyallahu Anhum on the last day of Sha`ban, saying, “Oh people! A great month has come over you; a blessed month;  ….. [Narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah]

This month of Ramadaan has been mentioned in this Hadith of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Alayhis Salaam as “Shahrun Azeemun Mubarukun”. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam chose the words ‘Azeem’ (Great) and ‘Mubaruk’ (Blessed), to describe this auspicious month. It is indeed a month full of Barakah. In this month of Ramadaan, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala’s Barakah pours down in torrents … It descends in full force! Unfortunately we do not possess those (spiritual) “eyes” to see that Barakah coming down … Hence, we should treasure and value every moment of Ramadaan and ensure that we dont spend a single second incorrectly losing all the Barakah of this Blessed month.

We should rectify our Niyyat (intention) at the very outset and treat Ramadaan differently this year. From the time Ramadaan enters, till the time it ends, we should spend every moment in a manner that Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala wants us to spend it … i.e: how our Beloved Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, the illustrious Sahaba (RA) and our pious predecessors spent it. (Insha`Allah).
