The Effects of Listening to the Malfoozaat (Anecdotes) of our Pious Predecessors

وَكُلًّا نَّقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ أَنبَاءِ الرُّسُلِ مَا نُثَبِّتُ بِهِ فُؤَادَكَ ۚ وَجَاءَكَ فِي هَٰذِهِ الْحَقُّ وَمَوْعِظَةٌ وَذِكْرَىٰ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

And each [story] We relate to you from the news of the messengers is that by which We make firm your heart. And there has come to you, in this, the truth and an instruction and a reminder for the believers ~ Surah Hud 11:120

What benefit does one derive from listening to the stories of the Auliya?

The Malfoozaat (Anecdotes) that we listen to, or read, are in fact, one of the Armies of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala … The hearts of the Saalikeen-those treading the path of Sulook (seeking Allah), derive peace and strength from these Malfoozaat.

Provided that one is a sincere seeker of Haq (Truth), the spiritual advices of the Shaykh will take one closer to Allah. It will make one realise one’s object in this world and have a positive effect on his heart. It will instill in him the courage to refrain from sins and make him aware of the harms and consequences of sins.

“Allah Ta`ala says in the Qur`aan: “Every episode which We narrate to you from the stories of the Messengers, We strengthen therewith your heart.”

Who is a Mureed?

A Mureed in reality is one who is seeking the recognition of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala … Allah is the “Muraad” … Allah is the object and goal we are striving to reach. We are seeking to gain His love, proximity, pleasure and recognition. 

A Mureed is guided by a spiritual mentor, who becomes a means of guiding him towards Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala. 

It is therefore imperative for him to ‘repeatedly’ sit in the company of his mentor and listen attentively to his discources and the anecdotes of the pious predecessors and thereby strengthen his spiritual heart.
