 Hazrat Anas bin Malik Radiyallahu Anhu narrated that, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: Whoever says when he leaves his house :

“In the Name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, there is no might or power except by Allah” ; then it will be said to him : “You have been guided, you have been sufficed, you have been protected, and Shaytaan distances himself away from the person.”
( Tirmidhi)

** There are four benefits in reading this Dua:
1) One is granted Hidaayah (guidance)
2) One’s needs will be fulfilled
3) One is granted protection from harm
4) One is granted safety from Shaytaan.

……

Tawakkul means having complete trust and firm reliance in Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala alone. Allah Ta’ala is Al-Wakeel (the Disposer of Affairs) and upon whom one should place one’s trust in.

Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala has placed us into Darul Asbaab (a world of means). We have been commanded to make use of all the permissible means that Allah has provided us with, BUT our reliance must NEVER be upon those means.

One must make use of means, believing that the “means” cannot produce any effect on its own. It is only Allah Taala who causes effect.

Sayiddina Umar ibnul-Khattaab (RA) was once passing by a group of farmers, sitting with some spades and shovels. He enquired from them, as to what were they doing there. They replied that they are waiting there, for their crops to grow ( without making any necessary effort for the sowing of seeds etc)….We are those who have Tawakkul upon Allah! He then enquired from them, as to whether they had sowed the seeds? They replied in the negative. He replied that they are then, not people of Tawwakul, as one has to tie one’s camel first (make an effort himself,) and then place reliance ONLY on Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala to obtain the desired results.

In the battle of Uhud, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, wore two armours! This was not against Tawwakkul . Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam took the necessary means and thereafter made Dua to Allah Ta’ala to protect them from the enemy and grant them victory.

There are numerous Ayaat in the Quraan Shareef that clearly establish the Tawakkul of the Believer. When Hazrat Ibraheem (Alayhis Salaam) was thrown in the fire by the idol worshippers of his time, the Angels came down offering their assistance to him. He replied to them that He is seeking the assistance of Allah Ta’ala alone and relies on Him alone … He cried out : حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ …. Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.

Those who firmly place their trust in Allah, He makes all matters easy for them.

Lessons from Hadith Shareef ~ The Virtues and Benefits of Using the Miswaak

Excerpts from ~ Ramadaan 1436 Programmes

bismillahh

Hazrat Aishah Radiallahu Anha reported: Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “The Miswaak (tooth-stick) cleanses and purifies the mouth and pleases the Rabb.” ~
( An-Nasa’i and Ibn Khuzaimah)

The implementation of the Miswaak (a natural toothbrush prepared from the roots of the Arak tree), is a means of purifying the mouth and has many physical and spiritual benefits. Most importantly it is a means of pleasing Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala.

It is a very highly emphasised Sunnah of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. The way of life of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, is Akmal (most perfect), Ajmal (most beautiful) and As-hal (most easy). It is the pathway that leads a person to Jannah.

. . .

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has mentioned in a Hadith :

“Were it not for the fear of over-burdening my Ummah, I would have ordered them to make Miswaak at (the time of) every Salaah.” ~ Sahih Muslim

From this Hadith we can gage, that although making Miswaak is not a compulsory act of Ibaadah, but Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam had strongly stressed on observing this Sunnah practice. It was his compassion for the Ummah and fear of them being rendered sinful (if left out), that he did not command it at every Whudu and Salaah. The reward of Salaah (Prayers) is multiplied 70 times if Miswaak was used before it.

The Ulama have mentioned as many as seventy virtues of utilizing the Miswaak, some of which are:

1. It strengthens the gums and prevents tooth decay.
2. It creates a fragrance in the mouth ;
3. It is a cure for illness ;
4. It eliminates bad odours and improves the sense of taste ;
5. It sharpens the memory ;
6. It is a cure for headaches ;
7. It creates lustre (noor) on the face of the one who continually uses it ;
8. It causes the teeth to glow;
9. It strengthens the eyesight ;
10. It assists in digestion

Lessons from Hadith Shareef ~ Sincerity of Intention

bismillahh

Excerpts from ~ Ramadaan 1436 Programmes

islaah.co.za.innamal amaalu.binniyaat.ikhlaas

Actions are Dependent upon their Intentions

Hazrat Umar ibnul-Khattab Radiyallahu Anhu narrated: I heard Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam say : “Actions are but by intention and every man shall have but that which he intended. Thus he whose migration was for Allah and His Messenger, then his migration was for Allah and His messenger, and he whose migration was to achieve some worldly benefit or to marry some woman, then his migration was for the purpose that  he migrated.” ~ Bukhari and Muslim

Imam Bukhari Rahmatullah Alayhi  selected the first Hadith, ‘Innamal a’amaalu binniyaat’ of Sahih Bukhari Shareef, as an introduction to the whole collection, emphasising the importance of sincerity of one’s intention, and that good and noble deeds will only bear fruit if there is sincerity attached to one’s intentions. The beginning of all actions is Sincerity (Ikhlaas).

Hazrat Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu Anhu reported Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam as saying : Verily Allah does not look at your faces (outward appearances) and your wealth, but He looks to your heart and to your deeds.~ Sahih Muslim

Sincerity is a vitally important aspect that one should inculcate and build within oneself. The reward of deeds depend upon one’s intentions. When Allah judges a person, it is the person’s intention and his actions that Allah looks at. Allah Ta’ala does not look at a persons outward appearance (one’s beauty/features), nor does He look to a persons wealth.

Allah is well aware of what is in our hearts. There must not be a speck of insincerity in our heart. The nature of our intentions should be purely and solely for the pleasure of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.

Ikhlaas means ‘to free something’ ~ Free your heart and free your intention from everybody else besides Allah. Any action that we do, must be pleasing to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala and Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ie. in conformity with the Shariah. The two important ingredients of any action performed are, adhering to the Sunnah and implementing Sincerity.

Doing Actions Solely for the Pleasure of Allah

‘Abdul-Wahhab bin Al-Ward narrated from a man among the inhabitants of Madinah, that Hazrat Mu’awiyah Radiyallahu Anhu wrote a letter to Hazrat A’ishah Radiyallahu Anha asking her: Write me an advise, but do not make it lengthy. So, Hazrat A’ishah Radiyallahu ‘anha wrote to Hazrat Mu’awiyah Radiyallahu ‘anhu. After writing Salam she wrote: I have indeed heard Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam saying: He who seeks Allah’s pleasure at the cost of people’s anger, Allah will suffice him against the trouble caused by people and he who seeks the pleasure of men at the cost of Allah’s anger, Allah will leave him to the (mercy) of people … Wassalamu- ‘Alaik (May Allah’s peace be upon you ). ~ Tirmidhi

We have been exhorted to do actions solely for the pleasure of Allah. The greatest honour man can attain is Allah’s pleasure. Our actions should be free from ostentation.

A Hadith mentions :

Hazrat Abu Umamah Al-Bahili Radiyallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wasallam said: Verily, Allah does not accept any deed, except that which is done sincerely for Him and to obtain His pleasure. ~ Nasai

Our intention should not be to please people. When we intend doing some good deed then we should not be concerned as to what people may say. Some times a person wishes to implement a certain Sunnah in his life, but he is concerned of what his family and friends will say, so he refrains from performing the particular Sunnah act. Do not worry what people will say… Please only Allah.

Check your intention before doing any action. Ask yourself … For who am i doing it? … Am i doing it solely for the pleasure of Allah or is it for show and ostentation?

Lessons from Hadith Shareef ~ Rewards for Patience at the Time of Calamity

Excerpts from ~ Ramadaan 1436 Programmesbismillahh

Being patient is a great virtue and comes with a great reward. Allah Ta’ala is with the patient ones. Allah Ta’ala makes one go through some difficulty or trial in life. Upon enduring this suffering with Sabr, one’s minor sins are expiated and one’s rewards are increased.

Patience when facing difficulties raises our status in front of Allah, and leads to the forgiveness of sins. A believing man and woman continue to remain under trials and afflictions, either regarding himself, or his children, or his wealth, or his property, until he meets Allah Ta’ala in a condition, that not a single sin remains with him. So, a true believer should face his difficulties with a positive state of mind, hoping for rewards from Allah Ta’ala.

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has mentioned in a Hadith :

” No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor grief, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.” ~ (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Another Hadith mentions :

It was narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik Radiyallahu Anhu that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “The greatest reward comes with the greatest trial. When Allah loves a people He tests them. Whoever accepts that wins His pleasure but whoever is discontent with that, earns His wrath.” ~ (Sunan Ibn Majah)

Therefore, when Allah loves any people, He puts them through tests and afflicts them with trials. And, anyone who experiences these tests and bears them patiently, gets the reward for patience.

Allah Ta’ala mentions the reward for patience in the Noble Quraan :

Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account (limitless) ~ Surah Az-Zumar 39:10

Sometimes Allah Ta’ala wishes to grant a person a very high status, but his actions are weak and his deeds do not entitle him to such a status,  so Allah Ta’ala continues to afflict him with trials and tribulations,  due to which he will ultimately reach that ‘high status’. Through these difficulties, his sins are forgiven and he is granted a high position in the eyes of Allah, which will manifest in the Aakhirah…

Lessons from Hadith Shareef ~ Dua (Supplication) ~ Ask from Allah Alone

Excerpts from ~ Ramadaan 1436 Programmes

bismillahhAllah Ta’ala mentions in the Noble Quraan:

“And your Rabb said: ‘Invoke Me, [i.e supplicate to me] I will respond to your invocation.

Verily those who are too arrogant to invoke Me, will surely enter into Hell in humiliation.”

~ [Surah Ghaafir 40:60]

Allah  سبحانه و تعالى has exhorted us to earnestly supplicate to Him. Allah says اُدْعُونِي [Call Upon me] and I will respond! Hence, it is imperative that we should always turn to Allah, when engaging in Duas. Allah loves those who supplicate to Him. Allah سبحانه و تعالى grants beyond expectations. Those who are arrogant and proud of supplicating to Him, and do not ask Allah for their needs, He will be displeased with them. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has mentioned in a Hadith : “Ask Allah for everything, even the lace of your shoes. If Allah does not provide, it will never be available.”

Hazrat Abu Umamah Radiyallahu Anhu narrated: It was said: ‘O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), which supplication is most likely to be accepted?’ He said: ‘ The Dua made in the latter part of the night, and after the obligatory (Fard) prayers.’”~ Tirmidhi

In Dunya, when we ask a person several times for our needs, the person becomes frustrated and angry with us … but Allah Ta’ala never becomes angry with us when we ask of Him, no matter how many times we ask of Him!Therefore, one should continue knocking and begging at the door of Allah.

Sometimes, one may not see an immediate result of what he is supplicating, but after several times of earnest begging from Allah, HE opens His doors widely for him. Allah Ta’ala knows exactly when to open that door! The problem is, that we become hasty and very easily abandon Dua.

Be mindful of Allah in prosperity, and He will remember you in adversity.” ~  Tirmidhi

Allah tests our reliance on Him, and puts us through various ‘examinations’. That person who in times of prosperity, enjoys plentiful (good health, wealth, comfort), yet still engages in Dua and begs from Allah only, then Allah will most certainly help him, in his times of difficulty.

A Dua of a believer is never wasted. A person’s supplications are accepted as long as he does not demand things that are considered haram or sinful. If our dua is not accepted (in Dunya), then Allah Ta’ala, either turns away some evil that was going to inflict one; or Allah Ta’ala reserves its rewards for the hereafter. On the day of judgement when one sees the huge rewards one receives for his unanswered Dua’s, one will wish none of his Dua’s got accepted in Dunya! SubhanAllah!  So even if our Dua is not answered in this life we should hope for its rewards in the next.

A persons Dua is answered by Allah. There are however conditions for the acceptance of these Duas.

Some Pre-conditions for the Acceptance of Duas:

1. One may not ask for anything deemed sinful or Haraam.

2. Not being hasty in the acceptance of Duas … and then giving up making Dua.

3. Supplicate with an attentive and sincere heart.

4. Ensure that one’s Earnings are Halaal and one consumes only Halaal.
