Lessons from Hadith Shareef ~ Rewards for Patience at the Time of Calamity

Excerpts from ~ Ramadaan 1436 Programmesbismillahh

Being patient is a great virtue and comes with a great reward. Allah Ta’ala is with the patient ones. Allah Ta’ala makes one go through some difficulty or trial in life. Upon enduring this suffering with Sabr, one’s minor sins are expiated and one’s rewards are increased.

Patience when facing difficulties raises our status in front of Allah, and leads to the forgiveness of sins. A believing man and woman continue to remain under trials and afflictions, either regarding himself, or his children, or his wealth, or his property, until he meets Allah Ta’ala in a condition, that not a single sin remains with him. So, a true believer should face his difficulties with a positive state of mind, hoping for rewards from Allah Ta’ala.

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has mentioned in a Hadith :

” No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor grief, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.” ~ (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Another Hadith mentions :

It was narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik Radiyallahu Anhu that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “The greatest reward comes with the greatest trial. When Allah loves a people He tests them. Whoever accepts that wins His pleasure but whoever is discontent with that, earns His wrath.” ~ (Sunan Ibn Majah)

Therefore, when Allah loves any people, He puts them through tests and afflicts them with trials. And, anyone who experiences these tests and bears them patiently, gets the reward for patience.

Allah Ta’ala mentions the reward for patience in the Noble Quraan :

Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account (limitless) ~ Surah Az-Zumar 39:10

Sometimes Allah Ta’ala wishes to grant a person a very high status, but his actions are weak and his deeds do not entitle him to such a status,  so Allah Ta’ala continues to afflict him with trials and tribulations,  due to which he will ultimately reach that ‘high status’. Through these difficulties, his sins are forgiven and he is granted a high position in the eyes of Allah, which will manifest in the Aakhirah…
