Dua for the Alleviation of Debts and Grief
Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri Radiyallahu Anhu reports that once Rasullulah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam entered the masjid and found an Ansari Sahaabi by the name of Abu Umamah Radiyallahu Anhu seated therein. Rasullulah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam enquired of him: “Why is it that I see you in the masjid at a time when there is no Salah? He replied, O Messenger of Allah! I have a lot of debts and many worries.’ Rasullulah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam replied : “Should I not teach you something which if you recite, Allah will remove your worries and pay off your debts? Say every morning and evening :
Allahumma Inni a’udhubika minal hammi wal huzni wa a’udhubika minal ‘Ajzi wal kasali wa a’udhubika minal bukhli wal jubni wa a’udhubika min ghalabatid dayni wa qahrir rijal
“O Allah! I seek refuge in you from anxiety and grief and I seek refuge in you from inability and laziness, and I seek refuge in you from cowardice and miserliness and I seek refuge in you from overpowering debts and from the subjection of man.” [Sunan Abu Dawud]
That Sahabi Radiyallahu Anhu says, ‘I did so and Allah Ta’ala removed my worries and repaid my debts.’ [Sunan Abu Dawud, Hadith: 1550 vol. 2 pg. 308 – 309]
