To Gain the True Benefit of Zikrullah one has to Refrain from all Types of Sin

One of the obligations of a Believer, is to gain close proximity to Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala through perpetual Zikrullah.

Allah Ta’ala says in the Qur’aan Shareef:

فَاذْكُرُونِي أَذْكُرْكُمْ

“Remember Me, and I will remember you.” (2:152)

By taking the name of Allah, a person gains the consciousness of Allah and is reminded that Ar~Raqeeb (The Watchful One), is witnessing us in every single thing we do and say. To become a Muqarrab (close friend/Intimate companion of Allah), a daily spiritual diet of Zikrullah is necessary to purge and wash away the impurities that engulf the heart as a result of sin.

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam used to stand up at night in Tahujjud Salaah and recite the following verses :

Verily, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding … Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], “Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire. [3:190/191]

Who are the intelligent ones that Allah the Exalted mentions in the Quraan Shareef? These verses of Surah Al Imraan throw light on the importance of Zikrullah and emphasise the qualities of those Believers who are mindful (thoughtful) of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala in all states.

Those hearts whom are engaged in Zikrullah in all conditions (sitting, standing or reclining, day and night, morning and evening) become enwrapped in peace and tranquility and the love of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala becomes ingrained in their hearts. This abundant remembrance of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala should however, not be transformed into a mere ritual, but should be a daily occurrence in the life of a Believer, without which the spiritual seekers heart becomes burdened by sins and laziness in Ibaadah sets in.

To Gain the True Benefit of Zikrullah one has to Refrain from all Types of Sin

Just as blood is pumped into the human heart and gives life to the heart … by continuously making Zikrullah, the spiritual doors of our souls open and allow the Noor of Allah to enter our hearts. When our limbs engage in Zikrullah, then every heartbeat of our spiritual heart says ‘Allah Allah Allah’ with us. Rewards multiply and the illumination of a Zaakir’s soul is increased as a result of Noor (spiritual effulgence and radiance) emanating.

Those who persist in sins, the Noor (light) which resides in the heart is extinguished and this veil of darkness gradually extends to all the limbs (ears, eyes, nose) becoming corrupt. Noor will be destroyed and the benefits of Zikrullah forfeited.

However, through the perpetual remembrance of Allah Ta’ala, dead hearts are revived and this torch of Noor (of Zikrullah) removes a person out of this environment of darkness and enables him to distinguish truth from falsehood.

We should therefore, strive to recharge our Imaan with A’maal e Sawlihah (righteous deeds) and attain the Qurb (closeness) of Allah Ta’ala, through polishing and purifying the heart with consistency in Zikrullah, together with refraining from sins.
