Lessons from Hadith Shareef ~ Mujaahadah ~ Making an Effort in the Cause of Allah

Excerpts from ~ Ramadaan 1434 Programmes
bismillahh

 وَالَّذِينَ جَاهَدُوا فِينَا لَنَهْدِيَنَّهُمْ سُبُلَنَا ۚ وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمَعَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ

And those who strive in Our (cause),- We will certainly guide them to our Paths: For verily Allah is with those who do good ~ Surah Al Ankaboot 29:69

When a person makes an effort (Mujaahadah) towards reaching Allah Subhaananhu wa Ta’ala, then Allah opens many roads that lead a person to Him. Any action that one does which is in conformance to the Shariah, links and reaches one to Allah Subhaananhu wa Ta’ala.

Allah Taala has created Jinn and mankind for His Ibaadah. This Ibaadah is not just for one or two days or months. A person has to make the Ibaadat of Allah Ta’ala right until the time of death.

An atoms weight of good deed (no matter how small it may seem), the reward of it will be seen on the day of Qiyamah. Also, any evil deed (no matter how small it may be), the result of it will be seen on the day of Qiyamah.

Allah has created Jahannum and has surrounded and covered it in a veil (of evil desires). The moment a person does something evil then he tears open that veil and plunges into Jahannum … Similarly, Jannah is so beautiful, but has been covered in a veil of adversities (Makaarih). Hence, a person has to struggle in the cause of Allah (fight his nafs), endure it and indulge in good deeds … He then opens that veil and thereby enters Jannah …

Ahaadeeth pertaining to Mujaahadah :

1. Hazrat Aishah RA said: With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, Nabi Sallallahu alayhi Wasallam would pray all the night, and would awaken his family for making ibaadah. He tied his lower garment (i.e: avoided sleeping with his wives) and devoted himself entirely to prayer and supplication. ~ [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

2. Hazrat Aishah RA said: Nabi Sallallahu alayhi Wasallam  would stand (in prayer) so long that the skin of his feet would crack. I asked him, “Why do you do this while your past and future sins have been forgiven?” He said, “Should I not be a grateful slave of Allah?” ~ [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

3. Hazrat Rabi`ah bin Ka`b Al-Aslami RA (an attendant of Nabi Sallallahu alayhi Wasallam and also one of the people of As-Suffah) said: I used to spend my night in the company of Nabi Sallallahu alayhi Wasallam and used to put up water for his ablutions. One day he said to me, “Ask something of me. ” I said: “I request for your companionship in Jannah”. He inquired, “Is there anything else ?” I said, “That is all.” He said, “Then help me in your request by increasing your prostrations (nafl salaat) ~ [Muslim]

 4. Hazrat Abu Mas`ud `Uqbah bin `Amr Al-Ansari RA said: When the Aayah enjoining Sadaqah (charity) was revealed, we used to carry loads on our backs to earn something that we could give away in charity. One person presented a considerable amount for charity and the hypocrites said: “He has done it to show off.” Another one gave away a few Saa` of dates and they said: “Allah does not stand in need of this person’s dates” then the verse was revealed … ~ [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

…

5. Hazrat Abu Hurairah RA reported: Nabi Sallallahu alayhi Wasallam said. “The (Hell) Fire is surrounded with all kinds of desires and passions, while Jannah is surrounded with adversities.” ~ [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
